In Inner Currents, Kimi Pryor and Matt Allyn Chapman explore liminal spaces which exist between the internal and external, micro and macroscopic, and the psychological as well as observational. These ecosystems, built upon inner and outer stimuli, contain life, stillness, and indications of vastness existing beyond their scale. The worlds we move through find their way into us, the external has influence over the internal, sometimes literally and others figuratively. The way we feel also has the ability to impact our environments and those who exist in its orbit.
Each day brings a cacophony of thoughts, actions, conversations, and moods. Reflecting and dreaming upon these daily interactions helps us process those events of our days which create our present, accumulate into our past and build our future. Observing our internal landscape, we "see" emotions, thoughts and stressors appear as changing weather, the shifting tectonic plates which create mountains and earthquakes, or the flow of streams emptying out into the sea. It’s this observation and reflection that allows us to name our internal topography. Our mind is ever moving, even at its most still, there is always a shift taking place.
This exhibition offers a space to look inside and converse with these two artists while navigating their internal landscapes made visible. Through their work they wish to offer you an entrance to endless moments of crystalized experience while asking that you consider your own inner currents alongside them.
